Did you know that 7 in 10 consumers think it is important foods be free of artificial colors and flavors?
The increasing relevance of using natural ingredients is a non-stop trend, particularly in the younger generations.
We eat first with our eyes, so it is essential to have food that looks appetizing to draw the consumer in.
Some years ago, it was not easy finding a full color spectrum from all-natural ingredients, but that is not the case anymore. Now, natural colors are available in a broad range of colors and from sources as varied as tea infusions, botanical extracts, cereals, nuts and pulses, vegetables, tubers, and fruits. We see a trend with plant-based colors or flavors now having functional benefits like purple carrots, grapes, alfalfa extract and beets.
On other research, according to the International Food Information Council (IFIC), 48% of American adults try to avoid artificial colors in their food and “clean ingredients” (understood as natural, non-artificial or synthetic) outranks in influence over taste and price when buying.
If you are not already including natural colors in your products or at least considering doing so soon, you might be missing-out on a very large and growing segment of consumers.
